Holy Spirits: 8 spots for your next happy hour

The Holy City has some seriously cool signature spots - whether it be beaches, restaurants, historical landmarks, or cobblestone streets. And when it comes to a happy hour, Charleston does it right. From signature cocktails to stunning sunsets, each of these picks deliver the pure charm of southern hospitality to the table… or bar.

best craft cocktail: The Gin Joint

The Gin Joint screams charm. The dark, cozy interior is matched by an outdoor patio, perfect for people watching along E. Bay Street. The joint’s superpower? An extensive and cleverly written specialty cocktail menu, where customers can order a drink based on undeniably unique adjectives. Order if you dare!

life of the party: Cocktail Club

We have to give an honorable mention to Uptown Social’s dance party vibes, but the Cocktail Club on King Street delivers really great drinks and cocktails. You’ll feel at home with the brick walls, cushioned seats, and small rooftop patio.

the main event: Husk

Pro tip for this one: sit at the bar in the historic brick house adjacent to the main restaurant. It’s extremely cozy and still serves a full dinner menu. As for signature drinks, any of the cocktails are great, but the bartenders know best. Shoutout to Charlie, who made his specialty: a gin cocktail flavored with lemon and muddled snap peas.

here comes the sun: The Rooftop at the Vendue or The Citrus Club

Both of these rooftops are classics, and you can’t go wrong if you’re looking for a good sunset view. For a more casual night, head to The Rooftop at the Vendue and grab an Orange Crush or Caught in the Rain. If you’re looking for a fancier spot, check out The Citrus Club at The Dewberry and try the Tropical Itch or The Hawk’s Perch.

wine not?: Bin 152

A glass of wine is a must for a happy hour, and Bin 152 on King Street is just the place. Right in the heart of the French Quarter, this historic wine bar offers over 40 wines by the glass and over 200 wines by the bottle. Get a glass and a charcuterie board and enjoy the view of King Street.

drinks or dessert?: Carmella’s Cafe & Dessert Bar

If you have a sweet tooth, Carmella’s should be at the top of your list. Not only does this Italian style cafe serve coffee, sandwiches, and divine gelato, but head there for a dessert cocktail or refreshing sorbet champagne mix.

let us entertain you: Firefly Distillery

Head up to North Charleston for some seriously epic spirits and jams. Firefly Distillery hosts live music concerts, food trucks, and pairs the fun with seasonal cocktails.

day tripping: The Co-op

If you find yourself wanting to escape the heat, head to The Co-op for a frose. With locations on Sullivan’s, Kiawah, Isle of Palms, and downtown, your beach day is about to get a whole lot better.
