Charleston Itineraries: Spoleto Festival USA

4 Day Immersion at Charleston’s Annual Arts Festival

Day One: Get Settled

3 p.m.

Check into your hotel. Stay at the Vendue, an art hotel in the heart of the French Quarter downtown, or the Dewberry Hotel, a luxury stay in close quarters to Spoleto’s offices and King Street.

6 p.m.

Head upstairs to The Rooftop at the Vendue for a casual dinner. The beautiful view is the perfect way to welcome you to the Holy City.

8 p.m.

See your first theater, dance, or opera performance at the Sottile Theatre.

Day Two: Get to Know the City

10 a.m.

See Charleston and learn about its history from a carriage tour. We recommend Palmetto Carriage Works or Old South Carriage Tours.

12 p.m.

Walk and shop through Charleston’s City Market. You’ll find a myriad of local vendors, craftsmen, and artists.

1 p.m.

Cool off from the Carolina heat with a midday snack at Carmella’s Cafe & Dessert Bar. With coffee, sandwiches, gelato, and cocktails, you won’t be disappointed.

3 p.m.

In the spirit of Spoleto, check out some visual art works downtown. The Gibbes Museum of Art is home to an extensive collection of Charleston’s artistic history, and there are dozens of art galleries in the same area that sell work by locals.

6:30 p.m.

No trip to Charleston would be complete without a taste of oysters! Make a reservation at 167 Raw for a scrumptious seafood meal.

9 p.m.

Attend a Spoleto concert under the stars and oak trees at Cistern Yard. The atmosphere at this venue is unforgettable!

Day Three: Two-Show Day

9:30 a.m.

Make the most of your weekend with a two-show day. But first, grab brunch at Poogan’s Porch for some delicious southern food with a twist.

11 a.m.

Walk and shop through the Piccolo Spoleto farmers market and outdoor art exhibition in Marion Square.

12 p.m.

Next head down King Street, home to blocks of boutiques and eateries. I always love stopping at Jeni’s for a scoop of ice cream.

1 p.m.

See a matinee performance of a Spoleto show. Your choices are endless, from opera to theater, to even a church choir.

3 p.m.

Make your way back to the French Quarter, and walk past Rainbow Row and the Battery. Admire the beauty of Charleston’s poignant architecture.

5:30 p.m.

Grab dinner at Husk, a historic and iconic restaurant full of southern charm. For an intimate and cozy setting, sit at the bar - you’ll be surrounded by exposed brick walls and have access to the full dinner menu.

8 p.m.

End your weekend with one last Spoleto performance.

Day Four: Say Your Goodbyes

As you prepare leave the Holy City, begin planning your next trip here over a coffee from Harken Cafe & Bakery.

Until next year!
