REVIEW: Musical chaos at The Harrington

The grit and grime of a graffiti filled college basement welcomes you to The Harrington. Thursday's lineup showcased Tamara, Zak G, and Zach Pearson & The Upstaters (pictured above).

With three drastically different artists and no set theme, vibes were inconsistent. DJBSTORM played the radio's top pop hits but abrupt changes and choppy transitions were whiplash for the ears. Tamara's set warmed up the crowd as she sang covers and originals making up for the music leading up to her set. Her backing tracks are well produced and she drank in every moment of performing live again, even debuting an unrecorded song that was undoubtedly one of the strongest in her set.

Rapper Zak G took control of the crowd with an instant boost of energy. His clean raps and original lyrics from his album, Lucid Dreams, reminiscent of Lil Dicky, had the crowd hanging on every word. Some fans even turned up wearing merch from the album. The 26-year-old from Oswego closed his set throwing a t-shirt into the crowd and gave an unexpected rendition of the Star Spangled Banner with air-horn sound effects from DJBSTORM.

Zach Pearson & The Upstaters took over the basement once again with a classic rock sound. The live band's talent is infectious with Pearson's tenor vocals screaming into the distorted mic. Their covers of The Rolling Stone's Gimme Shelter and Aretha Franklin's Chain of Fools brought the house down.

Despite the overall chaos, the talent on stage at The Harrington was undeniable. For the last few house shows of the semester, this was another successful night.
