A short drive up Onondaga lake is the new home to Golden Bee Bookshop. Bright walls and comfy chairs welcome you to its new location at 324, 1st Street in Liverpool.

The independent bookstore founded and owned by Casey Rose Frank, 36, set up shop in August of 2019. Only open four months before the pandemic hit, they had to pivot but found support in the community. Frank has been working diligently to pack up and move, successfully reopening on Independent Bookstore Day, April 30.

Frank loves bees and chose a bumblebee to be a timeless mascot for the store.

“Big fat bumblebees are so joyful and fuzzy,” she said. “My mom had beautiful gardens and I grew up seeing all the bees.”

The new location places the store in a busier part of town. With a dance studio next door and regular foot traffic, more people come in off the street. It also helps they are now just around the corner for the local librarians.

An avid reader herself, Frank is typically reading multiple books at once. Her top summer recommendation is Emily Henry’s “Book Lovers,” which came out this week on May 3.
